This is a free tool designed to allow you to record a series of SLURLs that can be copied into a notecard for use in a navigation HUD.
You can record WPs as you travel a route and perform simple edits and annotations as you travel.
The HUD has 7 buttons:
WP - Adds a waypoint at your current position.
WA - Opens a text box, for you to enter an annotation and when you hit <Submit> creates an annotated waypoint. You can add an annotation and a proximity override (use a comma to separate them - see the Kingpost line (below) that forces you through the channel)
In both cases, there is a confirmation message posted in local chat and the new WP appears in above the HUD. New waypoints are always inserted at the end of the list.
LIST - Displays all the WPs in local chat, so you can easily copy/paste them into a waypoint notecard
CLR - Allows you to delete the current list. To prevent accidental deletion, you have to press it twice within 5 seconds.
< & > - Allow you to scroll backwards and forwards through the saved waypoints. Adding a new waypoint will reset the scrolling to the end of the list again.
DEL - Deletes the selected waypoint (displayed above the HUD). As, with CLR you must press it a second time within 5 seconds to confirm.
Pressing <LIST> then gives you a list in chat that can be easily copied and pasted into a Waypoint notecard:
[12:43] BONE WP Recorder:
Atanua/36/222/21
Tuulikki/216/119/21,Warning cannon!
Kingpost/93/178/21,Salty Mole, 20m
Feazby/66/178/21
Doncastle/86/200/21
Warbern/57/175/21
Orlop/89/115/21,Plunder treasure
Note: for longer cruises the output list may be split into 2 or 3, so remember to delete the first line of each section of the list. To make it obvious I added "<---------- DELETE THIS LINE"
Once you have a notecard of waypoints, you put the notecard in the DAWG navigation hud:
I HIGHLY RECCOMMEND ADJUSTING YOUR PROXIMITY TO 10M OR 20M
The Dual Automated Waypoint Guide (DAWG), is a navigation HUD for cruising, that will read the standard waypoint notecards used by other navigation HUDs and will show you the direction to the next 2 waypoints, allowing you to make quicker, smoother turns.
Frustrated by delays waiting for route information to update, I created the DAWG to inform me which way I need to turn before I reach the current waypoint and minimise the update time on reaching it.
Like other HUDs, the original version of the DAWG required RLV to stop the world map taking focus from your controls when you reach a beacon. Due to a recent update to Linden Scripting Language, it is now possible to navigate waypoints with the world map open or closed and not lose controls when you reach a beacon. This latest version of the DAWG uses this new feature.
Main Screen
---------------
The main screen shows the distance, current speed and direction to the next waypoint. In addition the yellow arrow shows thew direction to the following WP. This is very useful as you approach the current wp, so you know in advance which way and how hard you will need to turn.
The display text gives the WP number/total, Cruise directors notes, and how close you need to be to clear the WP.
The lower (larger) green arrow shows you the direction to the next WP, based on your camera orientation.
The smaller yellow pointer shows you the direction of the following waypoint, so you can prepare yourself for the next turn.
Green text is the distance to the next WP in metres.
Blue text is your current speed in knots.
The two (up and down) arrows on the right allow you to scroll through the WPs, one at a time, forwards and backwards.
Clicking the red power icon hides the display. This will also pause the script. The button turns green. Press again to show the HUD, which will automatically resume from where you left off..
The folder icon is used to load the WP/USB file. This can take some time, as it's pre-loading all the region data in advance, so it can respond more quickly during the cruise, when you reach each target. It is important that you do not change region while the NC is loading.
The settings icon brings up a menu with some configurable options. See below:
The pointer icon allows you to jump to any WP, which can be handy after a crash.
The colours are chosen with the following in mind: Blue is what you are actually doing (speed, direction). Green is related to the next WP (distance, direction) and Yellow for the WP after (direction)
Settings:
- Verbose: This will say the number and name of the waypoint when you reach it, in local chat. This is handy if you need to reset the HUD after a crash
- Bearings: This toggles the display of bearing to target and actual heading on and off.
- Reverse: This will reverse the WP list, allowing you to do the cruise backwards. Clicking again will restore the original order.
- Length: This will calculate the length of the cruise in metres and say it in local chat.
- Beacons: This toggles the red waypoint beacons on /off.
- Transparancy + / -: Sets the transparency of the background in 20% increments. from opaque (0%) to clear (100%).
- Proximity +10 / -10: This determines how close you need to get to the current WP before it clears. It is adjusted in 10m increments. Note that this will not override any proximity settings in the notecard.
- Map: Use this option to enable or disable the world map. Please note as of Firestorm Version 7.2.2, RLVa is no longer needed, as the world map will update without taking focus from your controls.
Load:
Drop your cruise waypoint notecard in inventory. (Remembering to remove some of the older ones!)
Provides a popup with a list of all the current notecards in the HUD inventory (no more than 12 are allowed). Beneath the list there is a button for each NC. Note that the cruise names & buttons may be truncated, but this does not affect loading.
If a route is currently loaded, it's name will appear at the top of this dialog box. This will only update after a successful load.
Please note: The initial loading time can be slow, this is because the HUD processes all the region information needed for each WP, during the initial load. This allows the HUD to react faster when you reach the current WP and advance to the next.
Jump:
Opens a dialog box where you can type in the number of the WP you want to jump to. Useful for recovering after a crash. Use the Verbose option in settings to say your progress in nearby chat.
Recommendations:
*** DO NOT TELEPORT OR CHANGE REGION WHILE THE NOTECARD IS LOADING ***
Like all HUDs it's contents are volatile, so it is highly recommended that once loading is complete, you detach and re-attach it. This saves its current state, so you don't have to reload the NC after a crash.
When sailing in open waters, try using the HUD without beacons for a more realistic sailing experience. The direction arrows will still work.
